On February 1, 1582, Pierre Verchant, bourgeois of Montpellier, purchased this farm from the Bishop of Montpellier. A farm property belonging to the Abbey of Maguelonne. This farm took the name of its purchaser, Verchant, and still has this name four centuries later. This estate belonged to the Verchant family until 1762, (for 180 years).
On 23 September, 1878, Jules Leenhardt acquired the estate and manor house inspired by the "Montpellier Follies", which had been built in the heart of the unique grounds. He paid particular attention to these grounds, even calling on eminent Swiss landscape architects of the time: the Bühler brothers.
For 124 years, each generation of Leenhardt will bring improvements to this agricultural property.
On May 14, 2002, Chantal and Pierre Mestre acquired this property, which is now located at the gates of Montpellier. The vocation of Verchant is above all to be a family home. The Mestre family saw their children grow up in this prestigious setting.
